How we test

Every rating on this site comes from the same transparent process. Here's exactly how we evaluate, score and verify.

Our scoring criteria

We score each tool out of 5 across six weighted criteria:

Core tracking

Accuracy, ease of starting/stopping, automatic vs manual, idle handling.

25%

Features & depth

Reporting, integrations, payroll, invoicing, monitoring where relevant.

20%

Pricing & value

Real cost at typical seat counts, free tiers, and what's gated where.

20%

Ease of use

UI clarity, onboarding, and whether teams keep using it after a month.

15%

Privacy & trust

How invasive the defaults are, transparency, and data controls.

10%

Security & compliance

Certifications (SOC 2, ISO), data retention, and access controls.

10%

How we verify data

Pricing and feature data are checked against vendors' official sources at the time of writing, and each review shows a last-updated date. Where we cannot independently confirm a number, date or claim, we mark it with a clear {{VERIFY}} placeholder rather than guess.

What we don't do

  • We don't invent user testimonials, traffic stats or founding dates.
  • We don't create fake "expert" author personas.
  • We don't let affiliate commissions change a score or ranking.
  • We don't hide cons — every review names real downsides.

How ratings can change

Software changes constantly. When a vendor adjusts pricing, ships major features or alters its privacy posture, we revisit the review and update both the content and its rating. If you think something is out of date, let us know.

Independence

We may earn affiliate commissions, always disclosed. They fund the testing but never the verdict. See our affiliate disclosure.
